Making Memories

"A picture is worth a thousand words..." I am sure you have heard that before. I have been thinking about that a little over the past few days, which prompted this writing. I was sitting next to my wife this past Sunday afternoon at a cheerleading banquet honoring all those who had participated in some form or another this past year. The center piece of the afternoon was a thirty minute video montage of pictures and video clips. There was not a dry eye to be found in the room after that, except mine, because I never cry. (Except for during Extreme Makeover, Home Edition, but that's neither here nor there.)

It did prompt my thinking on how well memories are savored with a good photograph or video. I have done service projects during the summer and the greatest event was the last night when we showed the video looking back over the summer. All the memories came crashing back in the process of a few minutes as you looked for yourself in pictures and reminisced over the past weeks. It was a great way to celebrate.

Can you imagine where we would be today if someone hadn't invented the camera! How many memories would have failed the test of time. Yet at the same time it seems as though we have been trying to save memories in pictures forever, like there is something inside that longs to prolong the temporal fleetiness that rides a moment of time.

I am new to blogging, but do all of them have to be deep and philosophical? I just wanted to write down a few thoughts, but I have found myself talking about inner longings and other deep stuff!

All this to say I am thankful for the ability to capture moments in time on my phone and make them into a feature length movies on my laptop. So that my kids and their kids can see me in action as a young man. Now I just have to be remember to take pictures!
